Things are getting serious ...

I’m now seeing a psychtherapist since May 2021 for roughly once a month. I don’t have any mental problems … well, maybe but not related to my gender or sexuality 😅 but this is one of the things required here in Germany to get an appointment with an endocrinologist. Or to be specific to be treated by one. I already had a first appointment to clear up what paperwork she needs to proceed and what we exactly do.

A classical form of HRT (hormone replacement therapy) consists of a testosterone blocker and some form of estradiol. For younger people you can start with quite a considerable amount of estradiol but in my age a high dose would mean to seriously increase the risk of blood clots. So we will start out with a medium dose, a monthly dose of Leuprorelinacetat (a hormone inhibitor) and a standard dose of Cyproteronacetat (a testosterone blocker).

What do I expect to happen? I don’t know exactly. This hormone roulette turns out for every person differently. Some of the most often experienced things are:

  • bodily changes:
    • breasts, hips (both quite obiously)
    • skin (smaller pores, softer connective tissue)
    • hair (maybe more scalp hair, often less body hair, never real changes in facial hair)
    • sometimes a loss of muscle mass (I never was ‘sporty’ in any way but have quite a high muscle tonicity as a orthopedist once remarked)
  • psychological changes
    • emotionality (as if I’m not already emotional enough 😂)
    • freezing easier (even easier?!? I’m already freezing below 22°C/72°F indoors 😭)
